We’re Not Dead

We have been inundated with telephone calls and e-mails asking about our safety after the storms that passed through today.   Despite reports on national and local news, the entire landmass north of Phoenix has not been washed from the face of the earth.

There was a hairy moment this morning when Slugger got stuck out in the rain, but Crabby was able to rescue him and get him back in the house before he melted.

I don't get it: We can't keep Slugger out of puddles, and sometimes he joins me in the shower, uninvited. But when it rains, "Oh! The HORROR!

The only significant problems (and those which lead to the news reports) were due to idiot drivers who believed low slung cars could make it through rivers of water crossing the roadways, and the effects of the “Build Baby Build” attitude in Arizona which allowed homes to be built without proper drainage considerations or inspections.

But it’s all over now, and we’re still standing.  Thanks to all who expressed concern about our well-being.

Your sympathy is now requested as we endeavor to make it through the next few days with 54 paws dragging mud, non-stop, through the house.

I wasn’t home for storms 1-3, so no pictures of them, but here are some After Shots of Storm #4.

Awesome clouds! The pic drew my attention to the tarp on the roof which is covering the hole in the roof. Just happens, today is Emmi and Slugger's re-birthday. Emmi and Slugger, fresh from the pound, whose vet bills ate the roof repair fund. 3 years later, still have a bad roof, but also have 2 great kids!

    1. 4 inches on a bone dry desert, in an hour … thanks for the prayers, but could you ask that the accumulation be spread out over days so it will sink into the ground????

    1. You just weren’t out for the rainbow! It was a double rainbow… all the way! I saw your post earlier and figured you were well. Did you get the last gully washer around 6? A client on 36th Street – a mere few blocks away – didn’t get drop.

      1. It was a microburst. The good news is that all this washed away the mesquite pods. The bad news is that it replaced them with pods from afar.

  1. I see Crabby made it to work and back okay. I passed him when I was coming home during the first go round with the storm this morning. It was such fun driving and not really seeing the road, LOL. All critters are safe and will be dragging in mud for the next few days-oh the joy of monsoon.

    1. Crabby drives the 4WD, high clearance Waggin’ Wagon – he had it easy. Imagine me towing a trailer! It got hairy enough I just pulled over and read several times waiting for the water to go down. All in all, not the bestest of days!

  2. Damn that rain needed to be a slow sustained one..solid ground and inundation…dang..have you lost a heap of top soil (I say knowing if like me it’s a joke to call it soil) and dang about the muddy paws…urghhhh glad you are all well though ..and yes jump in a bath tub of sheeps water in a paddock..or a muddy slimy leech infested dam..but three drops of rain…and these two high tail it hahahah 🙂 hugs Fozziemum xx

    1. Slow and sustained, that’s the ticket! We’re taking the Idiots, and Gertie to some flood mud to play in a little bit. May as welll, they can’t get the house any muddier! Gertie probably won’t play – it’s just a way of combining Gertie’s walk with Playtime for Idiots.

      1. Hahaaha yep…you get to a point where the words clean floor are like a joke 🙂 hope the kids have fun..as for here we have not had any great amounts of rain…and spring is making it’s appearance…hoping the usual spring rains come..and hoping summer is a bit milder than last time…any more 45C days with 95% humidity and I may need a mud wallow of my own hahaha 🙂
